Transponder Keys

Modern car keys have a chip that talks to the immobiliser — cut the blade without programming the chip and the car won't start. We cut and program transponder keys at your location, so the car recognises the new key first time. Call 07425 435697 now — open 24/7.

What a transponder key actually is

Inside the plastic head of your key is a tiny chip. When you turn the key (or press the button), the car's immobiliser asks the chip for its code. Right code — the car starts. Wrong or missing code — it stays dead, even if the blade turns perfectly.

That's why a high-street key cutter can't do modern car keys: they can copy the blade, but they can't program the chip. We do both, at your location.

When you need us

  • Lost transponder key. We cut and program a replacement on the spot.
  • Spare needed. The smart move — cheaper now than after you've lost the only one.
  • Blade worn but chip fine. Sometimes only the metal needs replacing. We'll tell you honestly which it is.

What happens when you call

  1. Tell us the car.

Make, model, year — the chip type follows from that.

  2. We quote and come to you.

    Exact price on the phone.

  3. We cut the blade and program the chip.

Both halves of the job, at your location.

  4. We test start the car.

Not just the locks — the immobiliser has to accept the key, and we prove it before you pay.

What it costs

  • Chip type and make — some chips cost more and take more work to program.
  • Whether the blade needs cutting too — programming an existing blade is less than a full key.

Exact figure on the phone, as always.

Transponder key questions, answered

Why won't a high-street copy start my car?

Because it only copied the blade. The immobiliser needs the chip's code, and that has to be programmed with proper equipment. A blade-only copy will unlock the doors and do nothing else.

My key turns but the car won't start. Is it the chip?

Very likely — that's the classic symptom of a chip the car doesn't recognise (or a dead chip). We can diagnose it on the spot and program a working key.

Can you program a key I bought online?

Often, but call us before you buy. Some blanks are poor quality and some chips can't be programmed twice. We'll tell you what to look for.

Will my old keys still work?

Yes — unless you ask us to wipe a lost or stolen key from the car, which we recommend if that's what happened.
