Can a Locksmith Make a Car Key Without the Original?

Yes — for most cars, a locksmith can make a new key with nothing to copy from. We read your car's own security data and generate a key from it, at the car, in one visit. Call 07425 435697 now — open 24/7.

How it works (without the magic)

There's no mystery to it. Your car's immobiliser stores key data — that's how it recognises your key in the first place. With the right equipment, we read that data, generate a new key to match, cut the blade, and program the chip. The car accepts the new key because, as far as its security system is concerned, it's legitimate.

This is standard, everyday work for an auto locksmith — not a hack, not a workaround.

What we need from you

  • The car's make, model and year. This decides the exact method.
  • Proof it's yours. Photo ID plus the V5C logbook or other ownership proof. With no key to show, we're deliberately thorough — it's what protects you from someone doing this to your car.
  • The car itself. We work where it sits.

Does it cost more than copying a key?

Yes — generating from the car's data is more work than copying from an existing key, and it's priced accordingly. The make, year and key type decide the figure; you'll get the exact price on the phone before we travel. And get a spare cut while we're there — it's far cheaper than doing this twice.

Are there cars it doesn't work on?

A small number of very new models lock key generation behind manufacturer-only systems. If yours is one, we'll tell you on the phone — before anyone travels anywhere. For everything else, yes, it works.

What about a stolen key?

If your only key was stolen rather than lost, tell us. When we program your new key we can wipe the stolen one from the car's memory, so it will never start your car again. This is part of the job — just make sure it's mentioned.
