Cutting is half the job. Programming is the other half

Every modern car key has a chip that talks to the immobiliser. Cut the blade perfectly and skip the programming, and you've got an expensive ornament — the car won't start. Programming is what marries the key to the car, and it's the part that needs proper equipment and know-how.

We program keys through the car's own systems, at your location. No dealer visit, no tow.

When programming is what you need

  • A new key needs coding to the car. Bought a blank online? It still needs programming — and cutting, usually.
  • A second-hand key needs reprogramming. A used fob can often be wiped and coded to your car. Not always — ask us first before buying one.
  • The fob desynchronised. Sometimes the key and car just stop talking. Often fixable without a new key at all.

A word about second-hand keys

People buy used fobs online to save money, then discover they can't be reprogrammed to another car — some makes lock a fob to its original vehicle permanently. Before you buy a second-hand key, call us with the make and model. We'll tell you straight whether it's programmable or money down the drain. We'd rather talk you out of a bad purchase than charge you to discover it.

What happens when you call

  1. Tell us the car and the key.

Make, model, year — and whether it's a new blank, a second-hand fob, or a desync.

  2. We quote honestly.

Including telling you if that second-hand fob won't work.

  3. We come to you and program it.

Through the car's diagnostic systems, at your location.

  4. We test everything.

Lock, unlock, boot, start — every function the key should have.

What it costs

  • Make and year — some need dealer-level access; we'll tell you if yours does.
  • Whether a working key exists — programming alongside an existing key is simpler.
  • How many keys — doing two at once costs less per key than two visits.

Programming questions, answered

I bought a blank key online. Can you program it?

Often yes — but it usually needs cutting too, and some cheap blanks are poor quality. Call us with the make and model before you buy, and we'll tell you what to look for.

Can a second-hand fob be reprogrammed to my car?

Sometimes. Some makes allow it; others lock the fob to the original car forever. Tell us the make and model before spending money on a used fob — we'll give you a straight answer.

My fob just stopped working. Do I need a new key?

Not necessarily. It could be the battery, or the fob may have desynchronised from the car — both fixable without a new key. We'll diagnose it on the spot and only sell you a new key if you actually need one.

Does programming affect my existing keys?

No — your existing keys keep working. (Unless you ask us to wipe a lost or stolen key from the car, which we can do as part of the job.)
