How it works when you've lost every key
An all-keys-lost situation sounds like a disaster, but it's routine work for us. We first establish who owns the vehicle — photo ID and your V5C logbook are checked on every job, no exceptions. Then we cut a new key blade by code (decoded from your lock or sourced from vehicle data) and program the transponder chip or smart key to your car's immobiliser via the OBD port. For most vehicles the whole job takes between 30 and 60 minutes at the roadside. A small number of very new models have manufacturer-locked security that needs dealer-level access — if yours is one of them, we'll tell you honestly on the phone before anyone sets off, rather than waste your time.
Replacement vs spare: what you actually need
If your only key is gone, the priority is getting you moving — we make one working key first, then recommend a second as a spare while we're there, because cutting two keys in one visit is far cheaper and quicker than calling us out twice. If you've still got one working key, we can clone or program a duplicate from it, which is a simpler and faster job. Stolen keys are a different matter: alongside making you a new key, we can erase the stolen key from the car's memory so it can no longer start the vehicle.
